This show is ideal for the holy grail 25 through 45 year old demographic. Cons: The filming of a fight sequence, taking on the bad guys was terrible. There were great guest stars too, including Hal Holbrook, Ed Asner, Hume Cronyn, and even Helen Hayes. There are also seemed to be to much gun play and not enough acting. All four of the major characters were well chosen and show a great range of emotions, allowing for considerable character development. It's like stumbling out of bed in the morning not exactly sure what you're going to do that day.
Why change the sex of Kono? Let's hope we never have to see Sean Combs play anyone but Sean Combs in any other show. Danno is a hothead who is always going over the top. Bring in Patrick Jane for an episode, then they can all chase Red John around Oahu or an hour, or is that too 'Mental' for ya Brudda? As far as character development I don't know whether some of the reviewers here have been living in a cave but television shows today employ a story arc across several shows to flesh out the characters. Guy who's been convicted of taking bribes has a cousin who is now in the police force? When the detective bolts, McGarrett is worried that he's going after the crime boss. If you like it, good, if you don't like it, good, but ranting about the revisiting of classics is like arguing with the weather. If you were a fan of the original, you won't be disappointed at all.
. McGarrett thinks it's the crime boss but Danny doesn't think so cause they would have made sure the detective was killed. Why include an abbreviated version of the original theme music? Some cheesy stuff, some wow stuff, some well acted scenes. A stunning beauty and great actor as well. The building of the characters. In that respect, the new Hawaii Five 0 has a tough act to follow. The dialog and some of the background setup Danno's family situation, for example was a bit too cliché.
Face it folks, action, quick cuts and tight editing are here to stay. Steve and Danno's bantering with each other is hilarious. Jack Lord as Steve McGarret. The editing is a shambles, it's so crappy in the action sequences. Alex O'Loughlin and Scott Caan are perfect. I can't wait for season 7! He hasn't the same charisma.
The only thing missing is the persistent over-acting from Jack Lord, but that's a good thing. Some of the personal background could be better developed over time rather than cramming it into one episode while chasing the bad guys. He didn't even lead the team in this show. I think this is a great reboot. All he did was stand back and watch as Danno had tantrums. Wasn't McGarrett suppose to be part Hawaiian? Makes for a fun show which also does not take itself too seriously.
Hawaii is an exotic backdrop for any show but the original Hawaii Five-0 introduced it naturally as the action took us from the mansions of Kahala to the slums of King Street and to such places as the campus of the university, Kapiolani Park, the Iolani Palace, the Punchbowl Cemetery, and the hotels of Waikiki. I'm also excited because this episode was quite good and it was only the pilot. I've never seen the original series, so that's why maybe I like it so much, since many who've watched both the original and remake aren't very happy. It would be interesting to see Jean Smart, the governor, a bit more, but that might politicize the cases a little too much. If they had made a show identical to the original I would have probably turned it off half way through. I remember with particular pleasure the the three part series on the Vashon crime family and the attempts of first Harold Gould as the father and then Luther Adler as the grandfather to destroy McGarrett because of the death of the grandson. That detracts, and makes it a little hard to buy into it.
Watch yourself a reality show like Cops if you're going to harp on it. A guilty pleasure you say? I bet money that one of the story lines down the road is where Danno's ex-wife's husband turns out to be some kind of crime figure and Danno busts him and get's his wife back. Hire more qualified people, it's worth it. I think the show is fixable, but they'd better do it soon. The 4 main actors are excellent and they have a good chemistry together.
Hawaii 5-0 2010 is no crime drama, and it's not meant to be. Yep, it's called story-arc remember the key he found in the tool box? The finale was awesome and as usual, I loved every minute of it. Now for the pilot episode. . By the way, speaking to the post-55 demographic: You have decent viewer numbers, so you if you want your old timey shows, then you're going to need to pony up the money and buy what sponsors advertise, that's the only way you'll get respect.
