It is amazing how human-like that is. This film shows lots of cruel things. They did exactly what lions do, to a near perfect manner. The lion coalition was allegedly named after a South African security company, Mapogo A Mathamaga Security. In the end though, I am left with the moral quandry regarding all this, but I strongly feel there is no good and bad in the animal kingdom. Rangers and biologists were astounded by the pride's relentless hunger for domination, as they showed no fear in massacring other lions - and their cubs - in order to expand their territory.
Internal egos, fighting, and a feeling of invincibility caused essentially one of the strongest coalitions to rip itself apart. T is the pablo escobar of Sabi sands and this documentary is the Narcos I of Lion world. Right before Kinky Tail was surrounded, he was chasing away a couple majingalane males, while MrT chased away the other two. I read a couple blogs on what happened afterwards, and also how some of this came to be. This coalition of lions, along with their other brother, control a vast territory within Sabi Sands after dethroning the mighty Mapogo lions.
But this documentary is extraordinary. Coming out of nowhere, with a unique mindset and skillset, they essentially steamroll all opposition to crown themselves kings. And Amazon always backs all their products in case of a flaw. The land was theirs, the females were theirs, the cubs were theirs. But, suddenly, MrT disappeared for a while and when appeared, was disoriented. It keeps one on the edge of the chair from beginning to end.
These lions to me seem like the mongol hordes. All in all is 10 out of 10. Normally I find personal input from observers and stake holder in a documentary is more of a filler and clinical but in this movie they help build not only a foundation of timing and behaviour but also a deeper , more personal understanding of the desire for a single lion to be king of all and the retribution of others as the power wanes. Recommended for everyone except children. Whether this was intentional or not is what bears discussion. One of the most fascinating powerful documentaries to date.
Was he darted to check the wounds he received, or was he darted to turn the advantage to the majingalane males, who were showing no ability to stop this force it could be years before another coalition came to take these two out. Would get 5 stars if it was a genuine copy, which is what I thought I was paying for. To survive they have to dominate period. The six lions of the Mapogo Coalition were named Makulu the leader , Dreadlocks, Prettyboy, Rasta, Kinky Tail and Mr. One of those movies you need to see a second time.
Not recommended for younger viewers for the footage is very shocking at times. I always find Discovery Channel documentaries as fascinating and new things to learn, enhance knowledge and feel the same astonishing moments while making these documentaries. They were more aggressive, savage, and relentless than others before them, but they also created a very stable and 'safe' breeding zone for half a decade. In the video, they are presumed killed by the majingalane males, but on a few blogs, there is strong evidence that Dreadlocks was poached via snare. Anyways, fascinating, informative, troubling, insightful, beautiful, horrifying. Please let me know where this can be ordered from and will it be available on Amazon? Essentially, there was talk that MrT was darted, which allowed the 2 males he was chasing off to circle back with the rest of the coalition and surround Kinky Tail.
In one year, they killed over 100 other lions, gaining vast amounts of land for their prides. We can show you how. This is not a movie for the faint hearted, it is not only extremely graphic but true to life and death. Poachers knew that rangers and biologists had a tough time crossing during that time, and there was a marked increase in poaching activity. While we can place human emotions and values on this, saying they were bad, evil, cruel, destructive, etc.
T, who was notorious for his extreme brutality. It is like toppling a dictator to only have another come in and do much of the same. They took over more territory than any other group of lions in history. Great work and masterpiece of long work this film took 16 years to be made. And boy did the Mapogos dominate other male lions by unleashing unprecedented terror.
This would have to be the most powerful animal documentary I have seen. Their offspring still live on in that area of Africa and are highly revered, as descendants of the most violent, cunning and protective band of brothers that ever lived in the African savanna. Brutalists, they took over whole territories with unprecedented aggression, and challengers were often eaten during acts of defiance. So how did Kinky Tail get isolated and was killed in his first ever loss? As for Scar, the same could very well have happened to him, or, he could have been caught by the 4 males. Great scenery, great story, smart commentaries and lots of love of those great animals.
We play god in a world we don't belong, and it has real world implications of the ecosystem like when Cecil the lion was poached a couple years ago, the whole balance of the lion society teetered on the brink - luckily for his cubs, his adopted brother Jericho stepped into his place. So, there may have been human intervention to allow the majingalane to take out one of them and gain a foothold. No real answers, but I felt that the most compelling and strong testimony is that he was snared by a poacher along with a jaguar after crossing high water during rainy seasons - as his mane was found in a poacher's house. I love lions for their majestic appearance, their power, their strength and leadership.
