I took it in to the dealer and they said they could not find a problem, but it has happened several times. Also said that engine light was due to a moderate evaporation leak and replaced gas cap. We paid for everything else to get fixed and I refuse to pay for anything else. The contact owns a 2001 Dodge Dakota. All three also provide a self-diagnostic feature as part of their transmission control program. First it was diagnosed as being low on transmission fluid claimed it was not topped off at delivery and it was causing rear sensor on trans to shut down transmission. All 3 of these are computer controlled and have an electrically operated valve body to control the upshifts and downshifts. Problems started at 1,254 miles, and keep going at 26,000 miles.

We were told that that is normal and how Dodge trnamissions shift? Now with 65K on the the truck, the sloppy shift has grown to 2nd gear complety gone - slips like hell. No leaks, normal pad and rotor wear, no grooves on rotor, the front shocks were replaced but the vehicle continues to have the braking hopping pulsating problem. I feel the quality is in poor shape for Dodge if this the case. I think the transmission is going now and the steering pump is going too. Hope others have better luck! Doesnt seem to hurt anything but it shouldnt do that.
Dealership kind raised their eyebrow and scratched their heads about the whole thing, heh. If tranny need replacing check ebay to junk yard, is lot cheaper and as good than having it rebuilt. If I was in the creative end working for Dodge I could improve their vehicles greatly. Vehicle will sometimes lurch up into 2nd gear at lower speeds without warning or down to 1st from 2nd without warning despite traveling at a constant speed of approximately 20 mph.
I have amature radio equipment in my truck and the output power is around 100 watts and have never had a problem. The gas cap was loose which caused the check engine light to illuminate. The consumer stated even after the recall was performed, he is still having problems with the gear shift. I heard all the same things on my 2000 5-spped, 4. Causes More often then not, the cause of this code is that there is a transmission problem of some kind.

I now have 55,000 miles on my Dakota and it still hits the rev limiter each time I press the gas pedal down to the floor from a stop or at 30mph. It doesn't point to a direct fault in the engine, only a general fault in the transmission. The truck has 66,000 miles now.
